Art Activities and Autism
Autism Europe is an international organisation whose main objective is to advance the rights of autistic people.
At a conference in Brussels, in the framework of the Early aTTention for the inclusion of children on the autism spectrum in Early Childhood Education and Care systems (ETTECEC) project, a number of strategies were presented which teachers can apply when being challenged with autistic children in their classroom. One point of discussion was integrating autistic children via art activities. For children with autism who often do not respond if you ask them to do a particular task or get stuck doing one thing over and over again – art can help to free their mind.
There is a new online platform for teachers to inform themselves about autism and how to integrate various activities to help children learning basic social competences and rules in the classroom.
